I’m not sure whether it was the stunningly charming décor, or the overflowing lush greenery that swept over the exposed industrial beams that made me fall in love at first sight, but one thing’s for certain, Frankie’s Food Factory will have your heart from the moment you step foot inside, just like it did mine.

With the COVID-19 restrictions easing and our beloved community starting to re-connect I decided to pay a little visit to a highly recommended, family-owned local café gem within the Flower Power garden centre in Milperra, and boy was I not disappointed.

And yep, you read that right - it’s located in within a 100% pet-friendly garden centre and seriously, is there anything better being able to shop for new plant babies with your fur babies, feed your coffee addiction and live your best brunch life all in one place!?

For the record, I am most definitely not a decisive eater, but I do love being spoilt for choice, so when I saw the Frankie’s menu it was mouth-wateringly exciting and daunting at the same time. I mean any menu that contains a whole menu category dedicated to fries is automatically a winner to me and with a name like ‘Fries with Benefits’, I was hooked.

Let me be clear when I say choice, it’s definitely an understatement and trust me when I say you’re going to have to leave all your FOMO at the door when you visit. Breaky Plates & Greats, Pancakes, Sangas & Wraps, Breaky Bruschetta, Pasta & Risotto, Bagels, Seafood, Skewers, Burgers, Dessert, Cocktails – I’m literally holding my breath as I type this list and that’s not even all of it.

Think your classic aussie café menu with a gourmet Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Asian twist. I know right, drool worthy. As I scrolled through the list, I was blown-away by not only the amazingly creative fusion of global flavours but also their amazing vegetarian and vegan dishes. Oh and everything is halal certified, how awesome is that. There is seriously something for everyone on their menu and it’s safe to say, this visit won’t be my last.

After much serious debate and compromise (no joke) we made our choices and when seeing all the stunning dishes being served to the tables around us, not to mention the delicious smells that wafted through the air - our bodies were so ready.

And then came the Poke Tuna Nachos. Firstly, a moment of silence to appreciate how beautiful presented this dish is. Now let me tell you, if flavour-town was a real place, consider this dish the mayor. Flavour, texture, punch all in one, this dish was truly love at first bite. It’s the genius fried crispy wontons that had me (a sucker for all things crispy) and the delicious filling with marinated tuna sashimi, avocado, coriander, shallots, jalapeños, sesame seeds, pickled onions and sweet soy sauce. This was fusion at its finest people! Pop it in on your list.

When it came to mains, I went for the Keto Orange and Salmon Salad with grilled atlantic salmon, fennel, red onion, orange slices, parsley, mint, pomegranate, roasted almonds and a greek yoghurt and dill dressing and my partner opted for the ‘I’ll be back burger’; and to no surprise at all, both absolutely did not disappoint. I won’t lie, I’m always a little hesitant to order a salad (out of fomo of course) but this one did anything but disappoint. It was jam-packed with flavour, full of nourishing and delicious goodies and best of all, texture, texture, texture.

Of course, I had to have a little bite of the burger and it was *chef’s kiss* divine. The perfectly grilled smokey wagyu patty, with that creamy American cheese, perfectly crispy side of french fries – but the true star was the chilli sauce on the side. If I could offer you a taste just by looking at the photo, I would. It was spicy, sweet, tangy, yet not overpowering, or mouth-burning; the flavour is so developed and delicious that I would not be surprised if they keep this recipe locked up tightly.

Now for those who know me, they’d all agree that my famous last words would probably be “I need something sweet”. And as a self-proclaimed sweet tooth, once the mains had settled, I was ready to take a deep dive into the dessert menu.

The result? Caramel Brownie Sundae Vanilla gelato with chocolate brownie, peanuts and salted caramel popcorn, Donut Fries with Belgian chocolate sauce and Cookies 'n Cream Churros filled with oreo icing cream, topped with a sugar crumb, served with white chocolate dipping sauce.

Spoiler alert, they were all abso-freaking-lutely delicious and after a much-needed cappuccino, it was the best way end to a delicious Sunday.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, for those with little ones, it’s a fully family-friendly café with a ginormous outdoor playground and cutest little kids’ menu oh and plenty of free parking within the complex!

I apologise in advanced for all diet-breaking this blog will cause, but trust me, it’s totally worth it. Frankie’s Food Factory, you had me at first bite and I’ll definitely be seeing you again soon.
